About This Webinar

Learn how the MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative’s award-winning podcast Today I Learned: Climate (TILclimate) can support climate education in high school classrooms and out-of-school-time youth programs. Flexible, adaptable Educator Guides for each episode support student and educator understanding of climate solutions, data, and communication. In this interactive workshop, participants will experience one guided activity and discuss best practices for podcast use in their teaching. All episodes and guides are freely available on the TILclimate podcast website, tilclimate.mit.edu.

Climate Education Specialist, MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative

Sylvia Scharf is a Climate Education Specialist. She focuses on teacher use of ESI’s public-facing materials, especially the podcast TILclimate (Today I Learned: Climate) and the MIT Climate Portal.

Before joining the ESI team, Sylvia was at New England Aquarium, where she honed her climate change communication skills with teachers, teens, staff, and the general public. Her favorite projects focused on climate resilience, the history of Boston Harbor, and the use of maps and graphics in public communication. She holds a Masters in Environmental Education from Antioch University New England and a Bachelors in Biology from Smith College.

A born-and-bred New Englander with Southwest roots, Sylvia can often be found in the woods or exploring the coast with her wife and child.

Professional Credit

Available for one-hour of PD credit. A certificate of completion will be available for download at the end of your session that you can submit for your school's or district's approval.

Share My Lesson is now a New York State Education Department-approved provider for Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) requirements and an Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) approved Professional Development provider.
